Full Job Description

This is a Public Notice for positions being filled under the Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base, NDAA 1125 (a) and (c).

About the Position: This is a developmental position with the Tooele Army Depot. WG-5 with promotion potential to WG-08.

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

WG-05 - Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Worker (Forklift Operator)~ Without more than normal supervision, I am able to perform the common duties/tasks associated with the position of an Explosives Worker (Forklift Operator).

I have experience in assisting higher graded workers in handling ammunition or explosives or movement/storage/verification of hazardous material or following strict safety procedures in using hand tools to perform potentially hazardous functions.

- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

WG-06 - Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Worker (Forklift Operator)~ Without more than normal supervision, I am able to perform assembly/disassembly of ammunition or explosives; or operating a single operation preset automatic machine to perform explosives work.

- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

WG-07- Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Worker (Forklift Operator)~ Without more than normal supervision, I am able to operate more complex semiautomatic or automatic machines to perform explosives production, rework and maintenance.

Have operated an electric, gasoline, or diesel diesel-powered forklift truck. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

WG-08 - Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Worker (Forklift Operator)~ Without more than normal supervision, I have experience working in production, rework, and maintenance ammunition operations or destroying a variety of explosives, ammunition, or propellants by detonation or burning.

Operation of an electric, gasoline, or diesel powered fork lift truck. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical effort: Work involves lifting and working on production including standing, reaching, bending, stooping and manipulating carrying of items weighing up to 45 pounds lines at rhythmic pace for extended periods parts and using machines and hand tools.

During fork lift operation, physical effort is required in braking and steering, manipulation of clutch, shift, lifting and tilting mechanisms.

Working Conditions: Work is usually performed indoors, or outdoors in covered areas or passageways which provide some protection. Work areas are usually well lighted and ventilated.

Some operations, however, such as melting powder or steaming out powder, cause uncomfortable steam or heat in the work area.

Workers are required to stand on floors made of concrete, lead or conductive composition. They wear protective clothing such as specially treated coveralls, respirators and goggles on many assignments.

They are frequently exposed to moisture and wet floors as a result of cleanup operations in powder working areas. They are exposed to the possibility of explosion and flash fire.

There is chance of injuries ranging from loss of life or limbs to bums, cuts, bruises, sprains and nausea. Major Duties:

  • In a developmental capacity, you will perform progressively more difficult and responsible assignments and tasks associated with the work of explosives operating.
  • Perform operations in the renovation, modification, demilitarization, and preservation of ammunition and explosives ranging from small arms to 280 millimeters, to include mines, grenades, and rockets.
  • Destroy a variety of explosives, ammunition, and propellants by detonation and burning. Prime explosives according to firing system and test continuity of electrical system.
  • Operate electric, diesel, or gasoline-powered forklift trucks to move, stack and unstack materials.
  • Disassembly and breakdown of ammunition items operating pull-apart or breakdown machines to separate projectiles from shell casings, and base or nose plugs from bombs and mines.
