The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Confidential Staff Assistant to the Deputy Commander (CD).

In the absence of the Commander's Secretary, also responsible for the AFNORTH & AFSPACE Commander and Command Chief (CCC) and assigned Special Assistants with responsibility for handling a wide range of sensitive and confidential special assignments.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems.

Examples of specialized experience includes working with procedures and rules of protocol in dealing with high ranking civilian and military personnel to include techniques for analyzing and measuring effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of administrative and technical programs, along with knowledge of the mission, organization, and work processes of programs to conduct studies, analyze findings and make recommendations on operating programs.

OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D.

in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.

OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Less than the full amount of specialized experience described in the job opportunity announcement; however, and have at least one year of progressively higher level graduate education, but have not obtained a master's or equivalent graduate degree.

Therefore, have a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible.

One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Thorough knowledge of the procedures and rules of protocol in dealing with high ranking civilian and military personnel.

Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to prepare and edit written correspondence and reports.

Skill in conducting detailed analysis of complex functions and work processes.

Superior ability in fact-finding, coordination, personal insight, and analysis of key issues, along with the ability to assess a variety of situations quickly furnish objective and unbiased viewpoints based on findings.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to maintain good working relationships. Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

Carries out high priority special assignments and projects personally assigned by the Deputy Commander, Commander, and assigned Special Assistants on a wide variety of sensitive and confidential matters.

Action Officer for the AFNORTH Deputy Commander's and AFNORTH & AFSPACE General Officer's long-range calendars.

Reviews visitors, incoming telephone calls, and incoming and outgoing correspondence and brings to the attention of the appropriate official within the office of the Deputy Commander and Commander when items require action.

Coordinates the AFNORTH Deputy Commander's and the AFNORTH & AFSPACE Commander's travel by assisting the trip planner in preparing itineraries that accomplish the Deputy Commander's and Commander's purpose for the trip and makes arrangements by working closely with the appropriate foreign country, state, command, installation, or company visited.

Logs and tracks all OPBs, EPBs, Awards, and Decorations for CONR-1 AF (AFNORTH & AFSPACE).

Establishes and maintains the AFNORTH Deputy Commander's and AFNORTH & AFSPACE Commander's personal and executive files, including sensitive correspondence.
