Job Description

Summary

This job involves driving and operating heavy construction equipment to build and maintain county roads and related projects in Tarrant County, Texas.

Workers transport materials, handle traffic safety, and perform basic upkeep on the equipment while working outdoors in various weather conditions.

It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in construction or roadwork who is physically fit and comfortable with machinery.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED plus two years of related work experience, or six years of related experience without diploma
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required upon hire
  • Tanker endorsement required within 30 days of hire for tank vehicle operations
  • Basic knowledge of heavy equipment operation and maintenance
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 100 pounds, stooping, bending, and working in extreme heat/cold
  • Pass pre-placement physical examination and drug test
  • Clean background check, including criminal, motor vehicle, and employment records

Requirements

1. Operates different types of specialized/heavy equipment
2. Performs road maintenance or construction related duties while operating equipment
3. Transports equipment and supplies
4. Maintains and controls traffic at work site
5. Performs routine maintenance on equipment or trucks and reports needed repairs
6. May perform general landscape maintenance
7. Performs all other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

NOTE: You must fill out the work history and education sections of application to show you have years of experience/education as required by hiring department or be disqualified.

High school diploma or GED + two (2) full-time years of related work experience.
~OR~
Six (6) full-time years of related work experience.

A Class A CDL is required upon hire.

Tanker endorsement is required within 30 days of hire for all positions that involve the operation of tank vehicles as defined by federal regulations.

Must have basic knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.
(THE SELECTED CANDIDATE(S) FOR THIS POSITION MUST TAKE AND PASS A PRE-PLACEMENT PHYSICAL EXAMINATION AND DRUG TEST)
If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing.
Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudication in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.

Additional Information

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to stoop, bend, push and pull. May have to lift heavy boxes or objects up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
