Job Description

Summary

This job involves driving vehicles to transport patients and supplies at a state mental health hospital, maintaining the grounds by mowing grass, clearing snow, and cleaning up debris, and performing basic upkeep on the equipment used.

It's a hands-on role in a maintenance team that keeps the facility running smoothly and safely.

A good fit would be someone with experience driving larger vehicles who enjoys outdoor work and is reliable for shifts including some weekends.

Key Requirements

  • Six months of experience operating and maintaining large vans, buses, or trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or equivalent combination
  • Possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license
  • Obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the probationary period
  • Ability to perform manual labor with powered and non-powered tools
  • Complete safety checks and inspections on equipment to comply with Department of Transportation regulations
  • Availability for full-time schedule (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM) with every 3rd or 4th weekend, overtime, and possible emergency call-ins
  • Perform general maintenance including cleaning, waxing, minor repairs, and assisting with major repairs

This position gives you the opportunity to utilize your specialized skill set to to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of our State Mental Health Hospital. Requirements

As an Equipment Operator A, your primary role will be to provide on grounds transportation for consumers, although other duties will be assigned as needed. Work involves operating a variety of equipment and vehicles to transport supplies, ensure the grounds are maintained in a safe and attractive condition, as well as perform snow and ice removal. You will be responsible for completing general maintenance of equipment and vehicles to include, cleaning the interior and exterior, waxing, performing minor repairs and preventive maintenance, and/or assisting the automotive mechanic with major repairs. You will be expected to complete safety checks and inspections of equipment prior to leaving grounds in order to maintain compliance with Department of Transportation regulations. Additional duties include performing manual work with powered and non-powered tools, loading and unloading trucks, cleaning streets and catch basins, as well as cutting and trimming grass and brush.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, work every 3rd or 4th weekend, with a 30-minute lunch. Work schedule may change based on operational needs.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires the selected candidate to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the probationary period.
