Job Description

Summary

This job involves reviewing autopsy reports and data on child and domestic violence deaths to create reports for state officials and help reduce these fatalities in West Virginia.

The role includes attending meetings, trainings, and collaborating on databases to track incidents and recommendations.

It's a good fit for someone with a background in public health or sciences who is comfortable handling sensitive topics like violent deaths and has strong data analysis skills.

Key Requirements

  • Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, physical, behavioral, natural, or veterinary sciences from an accredited institution
  • OR Graduation from an accredited nursing school with state licensure and three years of paid epidemiology experience (e.g., disease investigation, risk assessment)
  • Substitution: Bachelor's degree in biology, physical, behavioral, or natural sciences plus two years of paid epidemiology experience
  • Alternative substitution: Master's in Mathematics OR Bachelor's in mathematics plus two years of epidemiology or data collection/assessment experience
  • Ability to review autopsy files and multidisciplinary fatality data
  • Experience or willingness to handle violent death, decomposition, and psychological stressors
  • Proficiency in creating databases, spreadsheets, and statistical reporting

Full Job Description

Kanawha County

This position will assimilate pertinent information and statistical data to result in quarterly and annual reporting to stakeholders, Bureau for Public Health Commissioner, Department of Heath and Human Resources (DHHR) Cabinet Secretary, WV Health Officer, State Legislature and Governor’s Office.

Reporting will be accomplished through the comprehensive review of all autopsy files and information received from multidisciplinary fatality; review team members with regard to child fatalities and domestic violence fatalities; attending local, state and national training conferences on child and domestic violence fatality and mortality; attending all fatality review meeting; collaborate with Program Manager, Data Abstractor to create effective database programs and spreadsheets to capture and report incidences, circumstances, logistical information and recommendations for decreasing the number of child fatalities and domestic violence fatalities in West Virginia; Position will encounter matters and duties related to violent death, decomposition, and adverse psychological effects.

Qualifications

Training: Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, physical, behavioral, natural, or veterinary sciences from an accredited college or university.
OR
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with state licensure and three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in conducting epidemiology.
