Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping to plan, run, and review emergency drills and training programs across South Carolina to prepare for various disasters, working with government agencies and volunteers.

It also includes updating the state's overall emergency readiness plan and supporting operations during real crises from a command center.

A good fit would be someone with a background in emergency management who enjoys coordinating teams and staying organized under pressure.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • At least two years of experience in exercise planning, operational response, or multi-agency coordination
  • Experience in emergency planning, training, operational response, and/or joint, interagency coordination
  • Preferred: IAEM or S.C. Certified Emergency Manager certification (or equivalent), or commitment to obtain within three years
  • Ability to develop After-Action Reviews (AARs) for exercises
  • Familiarity with serving in emergency operations centers during activations

Full Job Description

Assists with the planning, organization, and evaluation of a comprehensive statewide exercise program addressing all hazards. This role incorporates the principles of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS) while ensuring compliance with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP). Administers and coordinates exercises for federal, state, local agencies, and volunteer organizations; oversees tracking of state and local exercises and ensures accurate entry into the Homeland Security database. Develops and completes detailed After-Action Reviews (AARs) for multi-hazard exercises. Leads and maintains the State’s Integrated Preparedness Plan (IPP) to align statewide preparedness goals and objectives and is responsible for planning and executing the Department of Defense (DoD) and State Emergency Response Team (SERT) Fall Workshops. Attends training courses, seminars, and conferences to enhance exercise delivery and program effectiveness. Serves in State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) or other locations as required during emergencies, exercises, and training events. Primary SEOC duties are to serve in the Supply Unit during activations.

Requirements
