Summary

This job involves supporting emergency management efforts across eight counties in South Carolina's Region 6, helping local officials build and maintain plans for disasters while providing training and technical support.

Full Job Description

In concert with the Regional Emergency Manager, serves as the Division’s Regional Emergency Coordinator for the Region 6 Operational Area: Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties to assist local emergency managers, first responder personnel, and other officials in the development and sustainment of a comprehensive emergency management program that includes the concepts of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS). Assists and participates in the development, execution, and evaluation of REP training and exercises at the state and county levels. Provides technical assistance to county emergency management personnel with plan enhancement, training, exercise development, evaluation, and after actions reviews. Assists counties in actual conduct of capabilities assessments to identify shortfalls and plan for improvement. Trains and assists county emergency management personnel on the Palmetto emergency management software and on various recovery programs to include local damage assessment teams. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with local organizations and maintains knowledge of the operations of local and county government. Relays pertinent information to the Region6 Regional Emergency Manager and the Operations Response Manager. When requested, assists county emergency managers during actual emergencies and serves as a liaison to the State Emergency Operations Center. Serves in the State Emergency Operations Center as required.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree and two years emergency experience at the local, state, or federal levels. Individual must possess a general knowledge of the functions of emergency management at all levels of government with emphasis on the local and state levels. Must have strong communication skills, both written and oral. Must possess a working knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) with emphasis on the Incident Command System component. Employee will work inAiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties and will be required to reside in one of those counties. Changing residence outside of Region 6 after accepting the position may result in termination. Employee will be required to report to division headquarters in West Columbia when tasked and to respond on short or no notice to emergencies inside or outside the assigned area of operations to provide assistance to local officials and relay information to the division. Employee will incur overnight travel while attending conferences, training, workshops, and should be prepared to pay reimbursable expenses. May also be required to spend an extended period in a Joint Field Office during recovery operations or in an impacted area in the event of a major disaster.

Qualifications

South Carolina Certified Emergency Manager certification or will seek to complete within three years.
