Requirements
You will participate in a comprehensive 12-month training program that includes enhanced supervision, formal education, and guidance in conducting field inspections. Working under the direction of the Water Quality Specialist Supervisor, your role will focus on Environmental Protection, specifically within the storage tank program. You will be tasked with various responsibilities throughout the Northeast Region to ensure compliance with the Commonwealth's storage tank regulations. Your primary goal will be to support compliance efforts and perform inspections of regulated facilities to confirm their adherence to the Storage Tank Act and Chapter 245.
This position will involve investigating complaints to assess potential violations of the Storage Tank Act, Chapter 245, or the PA Clean Streams Law, as well as overseeing regulated storage tank facilities to ensure they meet the Commonwealth’s standards. You will conduct inspections of both underground and aboveground storage tank systems, engage in escalated enforcement actions when necessary, and deploy absorbent materials or construct interceptor trenches as required. Additionally, you will collect water, air, and soil samples, input sample data into the SIS, review results, and communicate findings to property owners. Lastly, you will evaluate third-party inspection reports for completeness and compliance with the relevant regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, 2 days per week.
In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes-Barre. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field;
or
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field;
or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
Other Requirements:- You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
