Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist for the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Stewart, Georgia which is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) reviewing Environmental Program Report documentation for accuracy 2) conducting inspections of facilities/operations to ensure compliance with environmental laws and/or regulations 3) reviewing plans, specifications, and/or cost estimates for a variety of projects in support of the environmental program 4) coordinating with program managers on responses to enforcement actions and/or other specific problems/projects.

This This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-9). OR Education: Ph.D.

or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree.

Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work such as Environmental Science.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the your semester hours of education by 18. Add the two percentages.

The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Major Duties:

  • Assist in monitoring and implementing the environmental laws and regulatory requirements which pertain to the Installation environmental program.
  • Manages, maintains, and updates Army Reporting systems to include but not limited to Environmental Quality Data in various quality reporting, and performance assessment systems.
  • Supports Environmental Compliance, Sustainability, and the National Environmental Policy Act by reviewing proposed designs, plans and specifications.
  • Determines compliance with environmental regulations, policies, and permit requirements, and identifies practices that may impact environmental management systems to meet the requirements of particular situation(s).
