Full Job Description

This vacancy is for a GS-0028-9, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE ST LOUIS in SAINT LOUIS, Missouri.

To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

Maintaining liaison with federal and state regulatory agencies pertaining to high profile environmental requirements and issues. Obtaining and maintaining environmental permits.

Serving as a technical expert to management officials on program issues concerning environmental compliance and pollution prevention.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

You will serve as a/an ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST and be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day unit environmental compliance requirements, including the development, execution, and sustainment and continual improvement of the unit environmental management program.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Assists in the organization, preparation, and delivery of annual formal installation program management reviews Supporting the development of budget requests and generating supporting documentation and justification for program resource requirements.

Identifying the need for the development, improvement, or updating/changing of local environmental program guidance documents such as instructions, notices, policies, standard operating procedures/guidelines (SOPs/SOGs Supports Facilities Engineering Department (FED) personnel controlling/managing hazardous material management, lead-based paint, PCB management, pesticides and health issues Crafts, drafts, instructions, SOPs and written guidance for approval.
