Job Description

Summary

This job involves visiting workplaces to check for health and safety risks, writing reports with fixes, and teaching classes to prevent accidents in industries.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma plus experience in environmental health programs or radiological health (bachelor's degree in sciences, public health, engineering, or related field may substitute for experience)
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree with 12 semester hours in chemistry
  • Preferred: Three years' experience in industrial hygiene programs
  • Preferred: Completion of OSHA Training Program plus one year in occupational safety and health
  • Thorough knowledge of industrial processes, equipment, hygiene testing techniques, and state health standards
  • Valid driver's license, ability to travel weekly (including overnights), and physical ability to navigate industrial sites
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, clear communication skills, and ability to interpret regulations

Responsibilities

  • You will conduct scheduled health consultation visits at general industry and/or construction sites to detect hazards and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • You will submit written consultation reports, documenting alleged hazards, and formulating recommendations for corrective action to be completed within set time frames.
  • You will monitor corrective action dates, close consultation files, submit weekly paperwork related to consultation activities, and prepare other reports as required.
  • You will promote and assist with Outreach and Education training classes and programs that seek to reduce industrial accidents and provide training to other OSHA employees as requested.
  • You may participate as a team member on Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) onsite audits and serve as a representative on panel discussions for various safety and health professional organizations.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health.
  • A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and twelve (12) semester hours in chemistry.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in industrial hygiene programs.
  • Successful completion of the OSHA Training Program plus one (1) year of experience in Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Thorough knowledge of industrial processes and equipment in a variety of light and heavy industries.
  • Thorough knowledge of industrial hygiene testing techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable State health standards and safety and health hazards.
  • Ability to work with computers, systems, and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
  • Ability to make decisions and interpret State rules and regulations.

Other Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.
  • Must be able to drive a state or personal vehicle to complete assigned job duties.
  • Required weekly travel with possible overnight stays.
  • May require occasional work outside of normal office hours.
  • Must be physically able to navigate an industrial worksite.
  • May be required to pass a medical clearance and fit test for respirator use.
  • May be required to wear a respirator.
