Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a technical expert in nuclear engineering at a naval shipyard, focusing on supporting the overhaul, refueling, and safe handling of nuclear propulsion systems on ships.

You'll coordinate teams, ensure safety during radiological emergencies, and oversee engineering procedures to keep operations running smoothly.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECH in the NUCLEAR ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience demonstrating a thorough practical knowledge of radiological emergencies and their consequences, nuclear propulsion plant systems, components and supporting systems; Experience with overhaul and refueling/defueling of Naval nuclear Propulsion Plants procedures, naval supply systems, and the Shipyard budgetary systems; Experience providing technical direction on the engineering aspects of radiological controls in the event of a refueling radiological emergency.

Experience consulting with planners, schedulers, engineers, procurement specialists, shop personnel, outside contractors, military personnel and other facilities.

For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with radiological aspects associated with the overhaul and refueling/defueling of Naval Propulsion Plants; Experience demonstrating knowledge of radiological control procedures and practices; experience consulting with planners, schedulers, engineers, procurement specialists, shop personnel, outside contractors, military personnel and other facilities; Experience with overhaul and refueling/defueling of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants procedures, naval supply systems, and the Shipyard budgetary systems.

  • You will design or approve containments to ensure the design is sufficient for the task by validation ship check or jobsite check.
  • You will monitor shipboard work to ensure engineering procedures are followed.
