This job involves designing and managing electrical systems for city buildings and streets, troubleshooting issues, ensuring energy efficiency, and reviewing plans from contractors.
It also includes providing technical support to maintenance teams and possibly supervising staff.

Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree in engineering or higher, and two (2) years electrical engineering experience.
Licenses and Certificates: None.
Under general supervision, design, develop electrical projects and specifications, troubleshoot and evaluate conditions of existing and proposed electrical engineering plans and specifications prepared in-house, review and inspect those prepared by private consultants and contract workers, may supervise staff.
Develop electrical designs, energy conservation projects, and specifications.
Involves: Design electrical, illumination and special systems for new and remodeling projects of the City's facilities and street illumination utilizing computer software programs.
Manage electric energy conservation programs in illumination, air conditioning, and power quality of the City's facilities and streets.
Develop and prepare construction documents for electrical, control and lighting equipment, specifications and cost estimates.
Conduct evaluation and prepare professional reports on electrical code components of existing City's buildings and recommend solutions for electrical, grounding, control and lighting systems.
Provide electrical support and troubleshooting for public works building maintenance crews. Investigate new electrical and control technology equipment and continuing education resources.
Prepare wire lists, assembly and wiring diagrams.
Design solid-state programmable controls, grounding systems and low and medium voltage (wiring size, conduit raceways, UPS's, voltage regulators, electric panels and protections, circuit breakers, etc.).
Review and interpret plans, specifications and proposals prepared by private consultants and contract workers. Review construction plans to identify design problems and compliance to standards.
Make recommendations for changes to plans and specifications.
Review electrical components, design and development of solid-state control and monitoring equipment to assure efficient utilization of energy. Assure compliance with electrical codes.
Interface with El Paso Electric Company regarding electric meters and services requirements in new or remodeling projects and electric demand tariffs and rates.
Provide technical support to other City departments. Maintain public and operator safety. Manage documents, maintain records, review and prepare technical reports.
May supervise and direct staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct in, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development.
Enforce personnel rules, regulations, and work behavior standards. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants.
Recommend hiring transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
