Job Description

Summary

This internship with the Iowa Department of Transportation involves helping manage highway and bridge projects by estimating time and resources, tracking schedules, creating reports on delays and costs, and reviewing invoices from engineering firms.

You'll work closely with a team of engineers and project managers, with training provided to get you started.

It's ideal for college students in civil or related engineering fields who want hands-on experience in project management during summer and part-time in the fall.

  • Eligibility for junior status upon return to school

  • Authorization to work in the United States (E-Verify compliance)
  • Interest in highway and bridge project management tasks

Full Job Description

The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking Engineering Interns to work with our Project Management Bureau.


During your time as an engineering intern with the Iowa DOT, you will have the opportunity to:

  • estimating engineering time and resources associated with developing plans for highway and bridge projects
  • maintaining schedules and other information in our project management software
  • creating reports to illustrate project delays and cost increases
  • reviewing invoices from engineering firms for compliance with contracts
  • work directly with a team of engineers and project managers


Training will be provided.


Duration: Full-time summer; May-August (40 hours/week); transition to part-time during fall semester (up to 20 hours/week); hours are flexible.
