This job involves supporting a team that manages land rights for Alaska's highways and airports, including reviewing records to determine property boundaries, creating maps and legal descriptions for land use, and handling multiple tasks like design, construction coordination, and contract administration.

What you will be doing:
Assist Right-of-Way (ROW) Engineering staff efforts in making determinations regarding existing highway rights of way based on public land orders, departmental orders, executive orders, and historical records.
Oversee the design, engineering and development of right of way plans, parcel maps, and legal descriptions.
Coordinate and manage multiple diverse tasks with competing schedules involving design, construction, maintenance, public information, ROW acquisition, and administration of Consultant ROW mapping contracts.

As an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 in Right of Way Engineering you will work closely with our section staff, as well as the divisional and department administrative staff with diverse backgrounds.

The position is at the Central Region Headquarters building on Lake Hood (4111 Aviation Ave.), off International Airport Road in Anchorage.

Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution accredited by ABET.Or:A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution not accredited by ABET.ANDAn Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.Special Note:An applicant who will obtain within nine months a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by ABET, with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying, will qualify to apply.

The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.Or:A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET.ANDAn Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.ANDTwo years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level.
The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.Substitutions:Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).

This position is flexibly staffed. It may be filled at the Engineering Assistant 1, Engineering Assistant 2, or Engineering Assistant 3 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience.
The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at.
