Engineering Aide 3

Under the supervision of the Base Civil Engineer, this position supports the facilities management team by providing journey level, skilled sub-professional engineering work in the office and field to assist with capital improvement projects and planning.

This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation.

Requirements


Responsible to coordinate, prepare, and accomplish work in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) database(s).

  • Provide in-house drafting and design support for the Base Civil Engineer (BCE).
  • Retrieve engineering data from computer files and paper files to prepare for technical reports.
  • Assist with estimating scope of work and requirements, perform cost estimates for design and construction projects.
Lead survey crews and operate standard GPS survey equipment and collect survey information.
  • Operate standard and GPS survey equipment, collect survey information and complete topographic surveys, GPS surveys, construction surveys and facility inventories.
Accomplish project management duties for moderately complex construction, repair, and maintenance projects.
  • Responsible to assist with monitoring construction contracts.
  • Record daily progress of construction in written and pictorial media.

Qualifications


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of experience performing skilled sub-professional engineering work; OR

  • A Bachelor's degree with a major study in engineering; OR

  • A Certificate as an Engineer-in-training; OR

  • Land Surveyor's license.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:
  • Four years of experience involving engineering techniques.
Knowledge of:
  • Principles and operation of surveying equipment; conventional and GPS.
Skills & Abilities to:
  • Perform standard and GPS surveys.
  • Perform various engineering formulas, construction methods, engineering and/or architectural standards.

Compensation: Wage/salary depends on qualifications or rules of promotion.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


Background Investigation: Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment and to obtain/maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret-level security clearance.

Must be willing to sign releases of information and shall not have access to any investigative materials and files. The processing of background checks can take up to six months post-employment.

Failure to successfully pass a background check may be cause for termination.Union Shop Provision: This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA). Driver's License:

  1. Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
  2. Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act. This is required for base access and will be required upon hire.

Military Facility: Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation.
Fairchild AFB uses the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) for entry to the installation. Must meet access requirements / background check which can be found in the Camp Murray Access Requirements Policy (Unified Policy No. 18-01). This includes possession of an Enhanced Driver’s License, or other REAL ID Compliant Identification.

Work Hours: The standard work schedule is Tuesday through Friday with Monday off, for a 4/10 schedule. Actual hours will start no earlier than 6:00 am and end no later than 6:00 pm and will include core business hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Telework: This position may be eligible for some telework. The incumbent will work with their supervisor to identify an appropriate work schedule and balance between remote and in person work based on operational need and employee preference. Reporting to the workstation for work activities or participating in-person meetings will be needed.

Emergency Assignment: Upon activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) or Joint Field Office (JFO), incumbent may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings, in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.

Travel: Minimal statewide or national travel may be required up to 5%, to include overnight stays.
