Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an engineer to ensure safety in manufacturing explosives and energetic materials at a naval facility, by assessing hazards, reviewing procedures, and leading safety programs to prevent accidents.

A good fit would be someone with engineering experience in safety analysis, especially in high-risk environments like manufacturing or defense, who is detail-oriented and comfortable leading teams in audits and investigations.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

You will serve as an ENGINEER in the Ordnance Assurance and Safety Office (00SA) of NAVSURFWARCEN IH DIV. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project.

The ND-04 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-12 and GS-13.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-9/10/11 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer, conducting hazard assessments utilizing safety engineering principles, standards, or techniques to identify safety hazards and risk mitigation procedures for manufacturing processes ensuring compliance with facility programs.

  • You will be responsible for assisting in the implementation and sustainment of the Process Safety program at NSWC Indian Head.
  • You will perform safety assessments for major energetics manufacturing processes; serve as a lead safety representative for process audits, peer reviews, safety review committees, process review boards, and facility inspections.
  • You will perform reviews and validations of drawings for equipment and tooling, work review forms, Standard Operating Procedures and Hazard Control Briefs; provide Explosive Safety Inspections (ESI) support and interface.
  • You will lead in performing incident investigating and reporting; and lead critical explosive safety programs such as Grounding and Bonding and lightening protection systems.
