In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-04) in the Federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-05, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-04 if outside the Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as performing administrative support functions for one or more employees to include general office support duties, utilizing software applications, and preparing, editing and formatting documents; and providing support services such as clerical and reader services to personnel with disabilities on a reasonable accommodations.

Time-in-Grade: For entry at the GS-05 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-04 or higher grade in the Federal Service.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Provides a complete portfolio of visual accommodations for employees who are blind or have low visual acuity. This includes orientation and mobility support, and use of accessibility software applications.
  • Assists and guides serviced employees in navigating and editing electronic documents and computer applications that are not accessible.
  • Delivers information to serviced employees during meetings by describing various forms of visual information used to supplement written/printed text in an auditory format, to include graphs, charts, pictures, illustrations, videos etc.
  • Provides Personal Assistance Services (PAS) to assist employees in performing essential activities/tasks of daily living than an individual would typically perform if they did not have a disability.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the DISA American Sign Language (ASL) contract interpreter calendar.
