This job involves leading a team to develop and maintain emergency plans, supervise disaster recovery efforts, and ensure the county is ready for crises like natural disasters.
You'll work closely with other departments, respond to incidents on-site, and sometimes manage the emergency operations center during activations.
It's ideal for someone with leadership experience in emergency services who enjoys fieldwork, team coordination, and staying calm under pressure.

Why It's a Great Opportunity:
As a working supervisor, the Planning Supervisor will oversee a team focused on the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, COOP, disaster recovery, Hazard Mitigation Plan, catastrophic planning, and working across all sections and divisions in our Department to support planning, training, and exercising.
You will report to the Emergency Management Program Manager and work closely with the preparedness and operations sections to ensure roles, responsibilities, and department functions are operational and ready to implement.
This role requires active and early engagement in incidents around the County, and you should be comfortable working in the field and liaising with first responders.
Supervisors serve as part of a cadre of rotating duty managers and, when the EOC is activated, may serve as an EOC Manager.
Why It's a Great Department:
At the heart of the Pierce County Department of Emergency Management is a commitment to communication, coordination, and collaboration.
We work closely with our stakeholders and communities to prepare for, respond to, mitigate against, and recover from disasters — always with a focus on saving lives and protecting property.
We’re proud to be one of the first counties in the nation to be accredited through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP), and we’ve maintained that high standard through two successful reaccreditations.
This achievement highlights our role as a leader in emergency management, not just in Pierce County, but throughout the Puget Sound, Washington State, and across the United States.
This success is driven by a team of passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to sustaining our network infrastructure and providing the best customer service to our stakeholders.
You will be joining a larger team in Emergency Management committed to the full cycle of emergency management: planning, preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery.
