Job Description

Summary

This job involves diagnosing, repairing, and installing electronic systems in a correctional facility, such as security doors, intercoms, alarms, and fire systems, while also creating documentation and training staff on their use.

It's a hands-on role focused on keeping critical equipment running smoothly in a secure environment.

A good fit would be someone with practical electronics experience who enjoys troubleshooting, technical writing, and teaching others.

Key Requirements

  • Two years of post-high school education in electronics, electronics maintenance, biomedical equipment technology, or a closely related field
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience, with one year of electronic repair, maintenance, or construction work substituting for each year of required education
  • Ability to perform basic diagnosis, repair, and installation of electronic equipment
  • Proficiency in using test equipment like phone toners and multimeters
  • Skills in tracing wiring, developing schematics, drawings, and computer programs for equipment documentation
  • Experience with microprocessor-based systems, including intercoms (e.g., Avaya phone systems), paging, audio, sensor-based alarms, elevators, and fire alarms
  • Ability to train staff on operation, preventative maintenance, and repair of electronic systems, and develop operation manuals and theory documents

Full Job Description

Basic diagnosis repair & installation of electronic equipment.
Using appropriate test equipment ( phone toner, multi meter Etc.).
In addition, trace point to point wiring and develop drawings, schematics and computer programs to document installation of new equipment and present wiring to control electro-mechanical door lock system
Complete installation updates with assistance of professional engineers of microprocessor based systems intercom in house (Avaya phone systems, paging, audio and sensor based fence alarm systems, elevators and fire alarms
Train individual(s) in operation of electronic equipment systems to assure adequate backup is available.

Develop written theory or operation documents and put together operation manuals for security systems.
Train other staff to help in the preventative maintenance and repair of electronic systems

Qualifications

Two years of post high school education with an emphasis in electronics, electronics maintenance, biomedical equipment technology or closely related areas;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of electronic repair, maintenance or electronic construction work experience for each year of the required education.
