Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an expert on the software side of the Navy's AEGIS Weapon System, where you'll track and fix software issues, advise teams on technical problems, and join various review meetings to ensure everything runs smoothly.

It's perfect for someone with hands-on experience in electronics or software for military systems who enjoys collaborating with engineers and managing projects.

You'll help improve the reliability of combat systems used on ships.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 or NJ-03, analyzing operations and providing technical assistance for combat and weapon systems
  • Expertise in software quality, including defect analysis, tracking, and monitoring throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of AEGIS Weapon System software, baselines, specifications, processes, tests, and design problem resolution
  • Experience participating in engineering reviews, boards, and working groups such as Change Review Boards (CRBs), Problem Review Boards (PRBs), and Sprint Demos
  • Ability to translate sponsor requirements into work breakdown structures, delegate tasks, and deliver finished products
  • Skills in managing funding and collaborating on engineering support for integrated combat systems
  • Familiarity with digital engineering tools, AEGIS TECHREP, and Combat System Engineering Agent's processes (CSEA CPS and SIEPs)

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will serve as the subject matter expert for software quality regarding defect analysis and tracking within the AEGIS Weapon System and related computer programs.
  • You will utilize established methodologies to identify, document, and monitor defects throughout the software development lifecycle to improve software quality and reliability.
  • You will provide technical assistance to all organizations involved in developing AEGIS Weapon System software for all Baselines including: providing interpretation of specifications, methods, processes, tests, and resolution of design problems.
  • You will serve as a consultant and advisor for the sponsor organization in applying concepts, principles, and processes for life cycle technical knowledge of various systems, subsystems, equipment, and procedures for AEGIS Weapon System software.
  • You will participate in all development activities conducted under the Combat System Engineering Agent's (CSEA's) Computer Program Standard (CPS) and System Integrated Engineering Processes (SIEPs) including: Engineering Technical Reviews (ETRs).
  • You will also participate in Change Review Boards (CRBs), Problem Review Boards (PRBs), Software Implementation Boards (SIBs), Governance Boards, Change Control Boards (CCBs), and Senior Change Control Boards (SCCBs).
  • You will participate in the Cross Product Teams (CPTs), Boards and other working groups and Demos including but not limited to: Sprint Demos, CSL Combined CPT, Joint Engineering Review Team (JERT).
  • You will maintain and participate in the development of defect backlog lists for all In-Service and Maintenance AWS Baselines utilizing AEGIS TECHREP digital engineering and CSEA tools.
  • You will work in conjunction with sponsors to collaborate on efforts being completed at the Forge supporting AWS and Integrated Combat System (ICS).
  • You will accept requirements from the sponsor, translate those requirements into an actionable Work Breakdown Structure, delegate work items to contractor and engineers, and organize/deliver finished products that meet the sponsor's needs.
  • You will manage funding from sponsor to execute engineering support services tasking.
