Summary

This vacancy is for an Electronics Technician in the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences, National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), within the Department of Commerce.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

This experience need not have been in the federal government.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This position is being filled under the Department Of Commerce Alternative Personnel System (CAPS).

Under CAPS, positions are classified by career path and pay band. The ZT-04 is equivalent to the GS-11/12 grade levels.

For the ZT-04 (GS-11/12), you must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower grade/level of a ZT-03 or GS-09 level in the Federal Service.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR THIS POSITION: Operating, configuring, and evaluating radio frequency (RF) test and measurement equipment, including antennas and antenna systems under the guidance of higher-level staff; Following established procedures to install and maintain RF systems and equipment; Applying electronic theory and industry standards to assist in modifying, integrating, and testing RF equipment to meet defined technical and project requirements; Testing and troubleshooting RF systems and equipment; Recording and reviewing electronic system performance data to identify and report incidents, problems, or anomalies; AND Contributing technical input, data, and analysis to test plans, engineering reports, and project briefings prepared or delivered by engineers or senior staff.

-OR- A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

As an Electronics Technician, you will perform the following duties: At the ZT-04, some of the duties of the position that you will perform are as followed: Assists with altering and using complex technical equipment or software or modifying and conducting complex tests and recording and disseminating results.

Performs nonprofessional electronic support work in the study of capabilities, limitations, operations, design characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types of electronic equipment and systems.

Providing technical supervision over a significant workload of mission supporting scientific and engineering work.

Assists with the design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance of electronic equipment.

Modifies assignments to accommodate new factors, alter equipment and techniques for new uses, and coordinate several parts of an assignment.

Provides specialized technical support for scientific or engineering research or performs program operations work under initial guidance on project scope and requirements.
