Key Requirements

  • Current registration as a Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (REEGT) with the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists
  • Ability to operate electroencephalographic equipment to obtain tracings and monitor biopotential activities like electromyograms, electrocardiograms, and electrooculograms
  • Experience preparing and positioning patients for EEG, electromyographic, and evoked potential examinations, including taking relevant medical histories
  • Skills in applying electrodes to standard positions, calibrating and troubleshooting equipment, and identifying significant waveform or technical changes
  • Strong documentation abilities in electronic medical records and effective communication with patients, families, nursing staff, and physicians
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, and commitment to professionalism and teamwork
  • Availability for Monday-Friday 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm shifts, covering on-call every third weekend, with initial training schedule of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

The County of Riverside's Electroencephalographic Unit at Riverside University Health System's Medical Center seeks an Electroencephalographic Technologist to join our team in Moreno Valley.

The Electroencephalographic Technologist provides direct patient care by initiating and monitoring routine and urgent EEG studies.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, applying and troubleshooting electrodes, conducting and observing studies, documenting results in the electronic medical record, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

The role requires consistent communication with patients, families, nursing staff, and physicians while working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

The EEG unit desires candidates with Natus equipment, and EPIC experience. However, training will be provided if candidates do not have prior experience.

Monday - Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, covering on-call hours every third weekend

Requirements

• Operate electroencephalographic equipment to obtain tracings, which monitor other biopotential activity such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms and electrooculograms by attaching electrodes to standard location on patient's head when requested by a physician's order and in accordance with standard procedures; take medical histories as they relate to neurological diagnosis; prepare and position patients for conducting electroencephalographic, electromyographic and/or evoked potential examinations.

• Apply electrodes to predetermined measured positions on patients and check their performance; calibrate and adjust equipment; replace faulty components as necessary.

• Select predetermined electrode combinations and determine electrode combinations to define focal abnormalities during examinations.

• Interpret the graphic output during the test recording and modify the test accordingly; observe patients during tests and indicate all artifacts interfering with a true recording (e.g., muscle movement, eye blinking, swallowing).

• Designate all abnormal clinical manifestations observed during test.

• Use activation procedures such as hyperventilation and photic stimulation with responsibility for securing patient's cooperation; determine when such procedures may be clinically contraindicated.

• Assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of seizure disorders through the performance of special tests; perform tests to determine whether the patient has electrocerebral silence in assessing cerebral death.

• Monitor electromyograms, electrocardiograms and electrooculograms; use electroencephalographic equipment in conjunction with other electrophysiologic monitoring devices.

• Maintain patient records and prepare reports.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in Electroneurodiagnostic Technology accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Registration: Current registration as a Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist, (REEGT) with the American Board of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists is preferred.

Knowledge of: Neuroanatomy, neuropharmacology and neurophysiology as they relate to electroencephalography, electromyography and evoked potential studies; electroencephalographic, electromyographic and evoked potential techniques, methods and equipment; effective methods and techniques of preparing and positioning patients for routine and special procedure examinations and tests.

Ability to: Perform the full range of electroencephalographic diagnostic procedures and tests; follow oral and written instructions of physicians; establish effective relationships with patients to ensure their cooperation during procedures.

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License will be required.
