This position is under the direct supervision of the electrical shop supervisor and is assigned to the Electric Shop, under the Plant Operations Unit, Engineering Service, at the Miami VA Healthcare System (MVAHS).
The physical plant consists of many highly technical and sophisticated systems which act as support for various types of related and dependent equipment.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Major Duties:
Major duties include but are not limited to: Maintains and repairs physical plant systems and equipment. Performs installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
Supports a wide range of facility and utility systems, including generators, control systems, pneumatic systems, conveyors, and temperature regulators.
Troubleshoots circuits and equipment to detect faults, including electrical grounds and short circuits. Uses tools and equipment common to the electrical trade.
Interprets schematics, diagrams, engineering drawings, codes, standards, sketches, and specifications. Installs electrical circuits and components from designated electrical panels.
Works with circuit breakers, receptacles, switches, fluorescent lighting, and other electrical components. Completes work in accordance with project plans and specifications.
Performs work in both indoor and outdoor environments.

This requires electrical workers him to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Electrical workers frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and, less often, up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds).
Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms.
