Full Job Description

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, YARD, Industrial Department, Electro Group, Baltimore, Maryland Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience.

Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: *Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT) *Knowledge of electrical equipment *Theory and Instruments (electrical, Electronic) used in shop and trade practices *Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) *Ability to use electrical drawings *Ability to use and maintain hand tools (electrical work) *Troubleshooting (electrical) National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

The employee will assist on the maintenance, repair, and installation of complete operational controls systems related to the trade and various miscellaneous manufacturing and facility projects performed at the Yard.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Installing and modifying, repairing, loads and tests nonstandard industrial systems, circuits, equipment and controls.

Performing inspects malfunctioning parts on vessels or in the shop to determine cause of malfunction and makes necessary repairs to correct.

Installing or upgrading Programmable Logic Controllers and necessary (PLC) software.

Performing repair work and installs on the following electrical components transformers, power panels, remoted operated and regular panel circuit breakers.

Works with various lighting systems throughout marine vessels Working in conjunction with Electronic shop on low frequency/high frequency modulating systems ranging from satellites, vessel underwater transducers, Doppler's, fathometers, sonar, electrotechnical servo systems, pneumatic, hydraulic in antenna motors.

Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
