Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an electrician at the National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, D.C., where you'll install, repair, and maintain electrical systems in park facilities while following safety codes and assisting with preventive maintenance.

Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You will be considered emergency personnel. You must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds.

Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

QUALIFICATIONS SELECTIVE FACTORS: This position requires that the incumbent must (1) possess and maintain a current and valid State Driver's license (or District of Columbia) and (2) have a Journeyman Electricians license.

A copy of your State or District of Columbia Driver's license and journeyman electricians license will need to be provided at the time of your application (Redact any and all pictures prior to submission).

If you are not able to provide proof that you possess a Driver's license or journeyman's license, your application will be withdrawn from consideration.

The major duties of the Electrician position include, but are not limited to, the following: Appropriately apply the National Electric code (NEC) to projects in order to select the correct materials and methods for an installation or repair.

Assists in the park's annual preventive maintenance schedule and annual operating programs for the electric shop.

Provide technical advice, guidance, and support in the oversight of existing and proposed park facility buildings and utilities.

Must be able to plan and lay out electrical systems from drawing and must interface new work with existing systems. Responsible for identifying and correcting job safety and health hazards.
