Electrician Lead, High Voltage - INTERNAL ONLY
Monday - Friday | 5AM - 3:30PM | ON-SITE

B&G provides service to over 42 agencies, maintains, operates and preserves the 486-acre state Capitol Campus in Olympia, including more than 28 buildings, 18 public monuments, over 6,000 parking stalls, four state parks and a 260-acre lake. B&G executes these responsibilities through the following service programs: Facilities Operations, Grounds Operations, Leadership and Admin, Maintenance & Repairs, Support Services (Custodial).
About the Opportunity: As an Electrician Lead - High Voltage, you will serve as the primary specialist overseeing the operation, repair, and modernization of emergency power systems for DES-owned facilities throughout Thurston County. You will ensure the full functionality and compliance of Capitol Campus generator systems, including transfer switches and fuel storage infrastructure, in strict accordance with NFPA 110, Department of Ecology, and Homeland Security standards. This leadership role involves coordinating with multidisciplinary trades, supervising external contractors, and developing automated monitoring networks to maintain mission-critical backup power. Beyond technical maintenance and weekly testing, you will manage workflow priorities and respond to after-hours emergency calls to ensure continuous operational readiness.
Requirements
Some of What You’ll Enjoy Doing Includes:Operate, troubleshoot, and repair emergency power generation equipment across DES facilities to ensure continuous service.
Execute comprehensive preventative maintenance, testing, and modernization for all emergency generator systems to maintain peak performance.
Perform specialized testing on generation and transfer systems to maintain strict adherence to NFPA 110 standards.
Maintain, repair, and document above and below-ground fuel storage infrastructure in compliance with EPA, ORCA, and other jurisdictional authorities.
Serve as a consultant and coordinator for generation modernization and construction projects related to the emergency power program.
Create and maintain an automated generator network to provide real-time alerts, alarms, and system monitoring.
Partner with the Building Automation team to install and configure network connections and alarm point structures for remote monitoring.
Act as the primary lead for vendors and suppliers while supervising assigned backup staff and external contractors.
Maintain precise records of all work performed and author technical reports, including generator startup and testing logs.
Coordinate fuel deliveries and schedule specialized maintenance for fuel tank systems to ensure constant operational readiness.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of experience as a journey-level high voltage electrician with a focus on generator maintenance and repair on Cummins generators.
- Possess a Cummins Journeyman diesel mechanic certification.
- Possess a Washington State EL07 electrical license or agree to obtain recertification within six (6) months of employment
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Able to move and transport fifty (50) lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:- Basic computer skills to include use of Microsoft Office and ability to learn in system (Mainsaver).
- Ability to work independently with little or no on-site supervisory direction and exercise sound judgment in the performance of assigned duties.
- Demonstrated reliability in achieving results with minimal oversight.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in diesel and gas generator maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair, including automated transfer switches and associated support systems.
- EPA-certified for both aboveground and underground diesel storage tanks, including required inspection, maintenance, and testing activities.
