This job involves helping experienced electricians install, fix, and maintain electrical systems in labs, offices, and other buildings at a government research institute to keep everything running safely and smoothly.

NIST's Operations and Maintenance Group is seeking several electrical workers to support the safe and reliable operation of NIST facilities.
These positions help maintain critical building infrastructure by installing, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical systems and fixtures across laboratories, offices, and support spaces.
The work directly supports NIST's scientific mission by ensuring facilities remain functional, safe, and compliant with electrical codes and standards.

The applicant's overall background of experience, education, and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to assist journeymen electricians in electrical installation, maintenance and repair of electrical items such as wire connections, attaching fixture, connecting wires and outlets, installing lights and switches, replacing defective outlets, and other similar types of duties without more than normal supervision.
Applicants must meet the screen out elements and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
