Full Job Description

Serves as the Education Technician in Education Service, working primarily with the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) / Basic Life Support (BLS), Resuscitation Education and Innovation (REdI) Program Coordinator who reports directly to the Chief of Education Services/Associate Chief of Staff for Education.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/17/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06.The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.

An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.

In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: General Experience: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

GS-07: Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.

To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

Preferred Experience: Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Training preferred but not required.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary in nature, but may also include standing, bending, and carrying light or medium loads of office supplies and equipment.

Major Duties:

The Cincinnati VA Medical Center is a two-division campus located in Cincinnati, Ohio and Fort Thomas, Kentucky serving 15 counties in Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana with 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Bellevue, KY; Florence, KY; Lawrenceburg, IN; Hamilton, OH; Clermont County, OH, and Georgetown, OH.

Cincinnati VAMC also supports two off main campus locations in the Cincinnati area via an Eye Center and Mental Health Outreach Community Division.

Major Duties: Maintains American Heart Association BLS Certification to do the duties of this position.

Assists employees with skills completion on Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) manikin carts in the Education Service to ensure staff are adequately qualified in CPR and maintain required certification.

Tasks include: training employees and clinical trainees to access the equipment and programs, providing instruction on proper use of the manikins, instruction and demonstration of chest compressions, and providing coaching and encouragement for task completion.

Keeps manikins in working order by testing equipment regularly and addressing any signs of potential or actual malfunction. Changes lungs within in each manikin as needed.

Cleans and sterilizes manikins between each use to prevent spread of disease among individuals utilizing the equipment.

Enters work orders as need when user level maintenance and upkeep is insufficient to keep manikins or laptops in working order.

Trouble shoots log-in problems for the software that operates the manikins.

Maintains laptops by ensuring software is kept up to date, laptops are maintained in an "always on" status for frequent automated updates.

Submits Office of Information Technology (OIT) ticket as needed when user level maintenance fails to keep these specialized laptops and programs fully operational and up to date.

Responsible for entering training and qualifications into the Talent Management System (TMS), the VA's online learning management platform, for ACLS/BLS and REdI.

This includes external certifications that qualify for incoming staff and trainees. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Compressed/Flexible: May be available. Telework: Not Available.
