Job Description

Summary

This role is for a lead registered nurse at a secure facility on McNeil Island that helps people with sexual offense histories through rehabilitation and treatment.

You'll supervise a team of nurses and aides, handle daily medical tasks like giving medications and responding to emergencies, and educate residents on their health.

DSHS SCC Registered Nurse 3

If you are an RN who
thrives in a challenging environment, we have a great opportunity to join our nursing team at the Special Commitment Center (SCC). Located in McNeil Island, our facility is surrounded by nature, wildlife, old history and amazing views of Mount Rainier and the beautiful Puget sound. We treat people who are detained and/or civilly committed and assists them in addressing their sexual offending histories.

As a charge nurse, you'll provide supervision and nursing care for residents, as well as coordinate nursing services and support your nursing team throughout the shift. We take pride in the teamwork and positive energy channel into our day-to-day activities. Our staff is appreciated and extremely valuable in assisting with the rehabilitation and treatment of the residents we care for on a daily basis.

The job is based on McNeil Island and requires ferry travel from Steilacoom, which is provided to employees. The ferry ride is approximately 20 minutes each way.
Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.

Night Shift Position: Wednesday-Saturday 2200-0800.

Some of what you'll do
  • Lead clinic staff of RNs, LPNs, and CNAs by providing direction and prioritization of shift tasks
  • Transcribe and verify orders
  • Order medications
  • Inform Providers and Nurse Manager of developments
  • Up to date on their nursing skill and abilities such as IV starts, IV fluids administration, laboratory processes and phlebotomy
  • Educate residents on health conditions, medication management, and treatments
  • Maintain optimal pharmacy operations
  • Prepare and maintain medication carts
  • Respond to medical calls and emergencies
  • Other duties as assigned by providers and/or RN4
  • Provide patient care to our aging facility population

We're looking for RNs who have
Graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing and have at least two years of professional nursing experience (or equivalent education/experience). Experiences in medical-surgical, emergency medicine, psychiatric medicine.
