Full Job Description

DSHS FTAA Forms & Records Analyst 1 - Background Check Specialist

We are looking for a full-time Background Check Specialist for intake and technical support. Are you a detailed oriented person who thrives on step-by-step processes?

Do you enjoy providing customer service in a fast-paced environment? Then this is the perfect opportunity for you!

The Background Check Central Unit conducts over 330,000 background checks annually for department programs and authorized service providers who serve Washington's vulnerable adults, juveniles, and children.

In this role, you will provide technical assistance to customers needing to activate, login, submit and add additional users in our online Background Check System (BCS).

This position is currently eligible to telework. This position requires you to work in the office at least 2 days a week. This may change based on business needs.


Some of what you'll be doing:
  • Use background check procedures and laws to assist customers with background checks and questions both over the phone and through written email communication
  • Assist authorized users in logging in and activating account(s)
  • Guide users through the navigation of the Background Check System and submit background checks
  • Use knowledge of background check procedures, rules, and standards to answer questions and refer customers appropriately
  • Walk customers through accessing online help resources
  • Scan additional background check information and court documents into the Background Check System
  • Mail out applicant result letters, additional information needed packets, and records requests
What we're looking for:
  • Working under pressure of frequent deadlines and changing priorities in a high-volume, production environment
  • Experience in reviewing forms and records for completeness and accuracy
  • Accurate keyboard skills including proficiency in MS Office Applications: Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience communicating highly technical information clearly and concisely, both verbal and in writing
  • Experience accurately entering and retrieving information in a complex database or other data system
  • Must pass a name/date of birth background check
Note: You must have the ability to pass a proficiency test showing data entry of at least 40 wpm, excluding errors.
