Job Description

Summary

This job involves teaching people how to drive safely as part of a driver's education program at a U.S.

Air Force base in Japan, including giving lessons, administering tests, and issuing certificates for operating personal vehicles.

It's a flexible role with no guaranteed hours but up to 40 per week, based on facility needs.

A good fit would be someone with teaching or driving instruction experience who is patient, good with people, and comfortable working irregular hours in a military community setting.

About the position: The primary purpose of this position is to lead the Driver's Education Program is located at the Pit Stop / Auto Hobby at the 35 Force Support Squadron at Misawa AB, Japan.

This is a Flexible category position; guaranteed 0 hours per week but may work up to 40 hours per week depending on the needs of the facility.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must be able to follow oral and/or written instructions involving duties with several distinct tasks or steps.

Applicant must have the ability to instruct driver's training principles in a behind the wheel road setting. Must be able to communicate with customers and possess skill in dealing with the public.

Driving instructor/trainee experience is preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of all traffics laws is highly desirable. Condition(s) of Employment: Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Must possess a valid 4EF and Driver's License. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug test. Must be able to obtain Driver's Instructor Certification.

Must successfully complete a Tier 1 background check. Must be able to drive in all-weather conditions. Major Duties:

The incumbent will perform all the duties for the execution of the Driver's Education Program and will work under the supervision of the Auto Complex Assistant Director.

Responsible for all aspects of the program which may include: schedules, administrative transactions and the administering of a variety of examinations for applicants applying for licenses in order to operate privately owned vehicles.

Instructs applicants in procedures to accomplish test, monitors/grades test results and issues certificates.

Checks all applicants operation of vehicle which include: Proper preliminaries to starting the vehicle, inspection of vehicle, handling, proper signaling, shifting, turning of corners, parking, backing, etc.

Evaluates the results of the driving and written test and grants or denies the operator certificate on the basis of the results of the test. Signs operator certificate of those passing the test.

Attends safety classes as a safety monitor for the driver's program. May operate government vehicles. Must be able to work an uncommon tour of duty, to include weekends.

Performs other duties as assigned. *This is a drug testing designated position.
