Requirements

In this position, you will collaborate with state and federal veterinarians, health professionals, and various stakeholders to conduct epidemiological investigations aimed at assessing domestic animal exposure, identifying disease sources and risk factors, and evaluating the potential spread of diseases like rabies and avian influenza.

Your expertise in Pennsylvania's rabies law and the rabies virus will enable you to effectively communicate relevant laws and disease epidemiology to stakeholders and health professionals, while also conducting comprehensive rabies investigations.

The work you perform will ensure adherence to Bureau laws and regulations, help mitigate regulatory disease events, and support the implementation of domestic animal disease control programs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Home headquartered for Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Centre, Clearfield, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, or Somerset County
    • Reporting location: Region 5 Office, 3001 Fairway Drive, Altoona, PA 16602
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from an approved Veterinary Medical Technology Training program and two (2) years of experience in the raising or handling of animals used for a variety of commercial purposes including food animals and farm animals; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, Dairy Science, Poultry Science, or a closely related area with at least 16 credits in animal science; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires current certification as a Poultry Technician or the ability to gain certification during the probationary period.

  • This position is required to possess a valid class C driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
