  • Within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree or credits
  • Valid Class C driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Current certification as a Poultry Technician or ability to obtain it during probationary period
  • Secure high-speed internet connection for home-based work in approved Pennsylvania locations (Region 6 counties: Dauphin, Cumberland, Adams, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, York)

Requirements

In this position, you will collaborate with state and federal veterinarians, along with various health professionals and stakeholders, to carry out epidemiological investigations aimed at assessing domestic animal exposure, identifying disease sources and risk factors, and evaluating the potential spread of diseases such as rabies and avian influenza. Your expertise in Pennsylvania's rabies legislation and the rabies virus will be crucial as you articulate relevant laws and the epidemiology of the disease to stakeholders, veterinarians, and other health professionals. Additionally, you will be tasked with conducting comprehensive rabies investigations. The work you perform in this role is vital for ensuring adherence to Bureau laws and regulations, reducing the impact of regulatory disease events, and implementing effective domestic animal disease control programs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered if within one of the Region 6 counties – Dauphin, Cumberland, Adams, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York Counties.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from an approved Veterinary Medical Technology Training program and two (2) years of experience in the raising or handling of animals used for a variety of commercial purposes including food animals and farm animals; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, Dairy Science, Poultry Science, or a closely related area with at least 16 credits in animal science; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid class C driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • This position requires current certification as a Poultry Technician or the ability to gain certification during the probationary period.
