This position is located in the Executive Director's Office of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources.
The work unit exists to guide and supervise the activities of the eight Divisions within DNR in the development, preservation and enhancement of Colorado’s natural resources for the benefit and enjoyment of its citizens – both now and in the future.
Purpose of the work unit is to ensure all department financial entries are entered and processed timely in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Law, State Fiscal Rules and Department Policies & Procedures. The work unit processes required vendor payments, interagency payments, employee payroll payments and revenue transactions, according to State-wide instructions, and to ensure required reporting is accurate. The unit is responsible for properly recording all appropriations, budgets and expenses and revenue, charged to those budgets. The unit oversees grant recording, revenue earning which is tied to expenditures and grant billing. The unit maintains the Department’s capital asset database and prepares all entries related to capital assets. In addition, the unit provides technical accounting support to the Department users of UKG (timekeeping), CORE (financial reporting) and InfoAdvantage, as well as Accounting and Payroll support.
Requirements
OPEN ONLY TO CURRENT RESIDENTS OF COLORADO
This position provides technical support for the accountants in the payroll department. Duties include recording employees in CPPS and UKG, recording correction entries in CPPS, reporting payroll information to DNR Divisions, verifying information to prevent payroll errors. Duties include researching and resolving problems regarding entry into CPPS and UKG for biweekly and monthly employees. Responsible for entering direct deposit information, tax withholding and other employee deductions. Ensures that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with GAAP, applicable Federal law, State fiscal rules, Personnel Board Rules and Department policies. Provides employees and management with information regarding timekeeping and payroll. Collaborates with the Payroll team and Human Resources staff to recommend and implement process improvements. Responsible for recommending and advising on improvements regarding agency system requirements specifically for UKG and CPPS. Represent the department as requested at Department accounting/payroll joint meetings.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Enter Employees into Timekeeping Software and Payroll Software (UKG and CPPS)
Receive employee PARs transactions from Human Resources and enter or update employee records in UKG and update CPPS.
Maintain employee payroll records. Subject matter expert for employee entry in the CPPS system to ensure employees are set up to be paid correctly.
Ensure that employees are paid correctly using extensive knowledge of payroll systems.
Make recommendations to the Payroll Supervisor for process improvements. Maintain electronic employee payroll files.
- Customer Service
- Customers include employees, supervisors, Human Resources, management, and any other person that needs information from the Payroll Department.
- The Payroll team works together to give exceptional customer service. This position will be the main point of contact for employees set up in payroll systems.
- Enter Correcting Entries into Payroll Software (CPPS)
- Position enters batch entries for payroll corrections into CPPS. These entries can include, but are not limited to, missed hours, corrections to benefit deductions, and correction to pay.
- Entries will be provided by payroll accountants, Division staff, PERA, COWINS and other sources. Position processes entries on the correct payroll schedule for employees.
- Payroll Quality Control
- This position is responsible for monitoring error reports and leave requests.
- Position is also responsible for preparing payroll review spreadsheets and helping the team to research any variances.
- Position is responsible for reviewing and verifying timecard data for the payroll run.
Report ManagementPosition prepares and analyzes reports from UKG and OnBase to be sent to divisions.
Position reviews the reports to assure accuracy of the financial information of Divisions and compliance with GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles), GASBs, federal regulations, and State Fiscal Rules.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:- A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years

Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.
To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who: Have an assigned State fleet vehicle
Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position
Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle

Hybrid schedule - working from a home office in combination with occasional in person work at 1313 Sherman Street - Denver, CO 80203, offsite meetings or as directed by the supervisor.
