Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of workers who handle the storage, distribution, and processing of hazardous materials in a military logistics setting, including planning tasks, assigning duties, and ensuring safety and quality.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in warehouse operations or hazardous materials handling who enjoys supervising others and solving on-the-spot problems in tough environments.

It requires physical stamina for lifting and working in varying weather conditions.

Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: I assist with planning and organizing work activities for employees.

Examples Include: Advise supervisor of problems involving disciplinary actions and counseling on conduct. Set goals and deadlines for accomplishing work.

Provide instructions to employees on work procedures and safety.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stopping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Frequently lifts and carries weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.

Working Conditions: Work is accomplished both inside and outside of warehouses in all kinds of weather.

Work areas may be hot, cold, damp, drafty, dirty, noisy, poorly lit, and /or other adverse working conditions.

Frequently exposed to working conditions that or situations that could result in cuts, scrapes, and bruises, falls from ladders, falling material or injury from equipment.

May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise while working in a mechanized work area, or radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes while working in a hazardous materials area.

Required to wear protective clothing and equipment when working with hazardous materials. Major Duties:

  • Exercises technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers.
  • Plans the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials based on workload projections on a weekly or monthly basis.
  • Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, in accordance with general work schedules, methods, and policies established by higher-level supervisors.
  • Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects.
  • Assigns work to individual workers by verbal or written instructions.
  • Monitors work in progress and inspects completed work to assure work order requirements.
  • Sets performance standards for subordinates and makes formal appraisals of their work performance.
  • Counsels employees and discusses informal complaints and grievances with workers and union representatives.
  • Initiates disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Maintains work reports and records.
