The Criminal Division’s Discovery Team of the Seattle City Attorney’s Office is looking for a skilled Discovery/Records Clerk to join the largest municipal prosecutor’s office in the state of Washington.

The Criminal Division represents the City in prosecuting misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and traffic infractions in Seattle Municipal Court, including driving under the influence, domestic violence, theft, assault, property damage, and trespassing. Criminal attorneys rotate through units dedicated to reviewing incident reports and filing cases; trials; and domestic violence cases. Opportunities also exist for attorneys to work in therapeutic courts – Mental Health Court and Veterans Treatment Court. All prosecutors assist in formulating and implementing policies to promote race and social justice equity, including developing potential alternatives to incarceration for criminal offenders.

Requirements

This position provides key administrative support for the Criminal Division. In this role, you will be a key member of the discovery team in the Criminal Division, performing the following:

  • Ordering, managing, and dissemination of criminal discovery
  • Uploading media evidence to an electronic portal and dissemination to defense attorneys (evidence.com)
  • Receiving, processing, and responding to requests for public records in compliance with the Public Records Act, RCW 42.56 for the department
  • Redacting videos and documents for trial prep, as well as responding to public records
  • Performing administrative duties and clerical work supporting the administrative unit and the division with a high level of efficiency and accuracy
  • Organizing and coordinating administrative support operations and procedures; evaluating procedures and revising as necessary
  • Utilizing clear, concise, and professional communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Supporting the front desk as needed
  • Effectively prioritizing time to meet legal requirements for responding to discovery and Public Records Act deadlines
  • Researching and compiling information on special projects at the request of the division's leadership, which requires a high degree of legal knowledge and independence.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires two years of clerical support experience (or a combination of education, training, and/or equivalent experience).

  • Intermediate skill level using Microsoft suite, (Word, Excel, Outlook), as well as other programs and case management software such as Adobe Acrobat, Evidence.com, GovQA

Compensation – The full pay range for this step-progression position is $36.89 - $41.31 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $36.89 hourly.

Current City employees' starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.

Advanced initial step placement may be considered under limited circumstances, but step salaries are not subject to negotiation.

Workplace Environment – Currently, the Seattle City Attorney's Office has a Flexible Work Arrangements Policy. Employees have the option to work a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office, 2 days remote). This is subject to change as circumstances and business needs dictate.
