Requirements

In this position, you will be responsible for the repair and overhaul of various vehicles, including cars, trucks, and tractors, as well as performing maintenance and repairs on equipment such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. Your duties will include repairing and replacing essential components like shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, and brakes, in addition to balancing wheels and ensuring proper alignment. You will also handle minor body repairs and conduct overhauls and testing of alternators and electrical systems on both vehicles and equipment.

The ideal candidate for this role is a licensed and trained mechanic specializing in automotive and heavy equipment, capable of executing a range of analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair tasks for a diverse fleet that includes construction machinery, trucks, automobiles, and hand tools. The equipment you will work on is powered by either gasoline or diesel engines. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and servicing our fleet and equipment, ensuring that all operations are conducted safely and efficiently, which directly contributes to public safety.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements, weather conditions, and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.

Additional Requirements:
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
