Five (5) years of executive-level experience demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of management principles in planning, coordinating, and achieving financial and operational objectives for a large, customer-oriented organization, with emphasis on sports or large-scale event management.
Demonstrated ability to manage high-visibility, large-scale events. Expert knowledge of economic and financial management principles.
Broad knowledge of marketing, personnel management, retail operations, customer service, recreation programming, contract management, race permitting, and safety compliance.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of military command structure, missions, and organizational relationships preferred.
Familiarity with Marine Corps Community Services operations is desirable.
Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited institution in a related field is highly desirable and may substitute for a portion of required experience.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 3 Secret Security Clearance. This white-collar position may require standing for extended periods and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Major Duties:
Serves as the Deputy Director of the Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO).
Assists in planning, directing, controlling, and supervising overall business operations and functions of MCMO under Marine Corps Installations National Capital Region¿Marine Corps Base Quantico (MCINCR-MCBQ).
Provides executive leadership for highly visible events that receive significant national media attention.
Directs and integrates operational controls and strategic planning initiatives across all functional areas of MCMO. Coordinates with U.S.
Marine Corps Headquarters divisions, other Department of Defense entities, and private-sector partners to promote and execute MCMO events, including flagship races such as the Marine Corps Marathon, Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon, Marine Corps 1775K, and associated ancillary races, expos, receptions, ticketed meals, VIP operations, award ceremonies, and press conferences.
Leads community outreach efforts with city and county officials to strengthen partnerships in tourism, economic development, and civic engagement.
Oversees the planning, development, and implementation of advanced technology systems supporting race registration and participant services for more than 50,000 annual participants.
Establishes policies, procedures, and timelines for online registration, customer relations, and data management systems. Manages internet services, survey tools, and domain registration.
Researches and implements emerging technologies to ensure MCMO events remain innovative and industry leading. Directly supervises all Marine Corps Marathon branches and functional areas.
Provides executive oversight of operations and logistics, business relations, customer service, sponsorship development and sales, vendor coordination, media engagement, and event execution.
Oversees economic impact studies to support fee reduction strategies and demographic analysis.
Maintains strategic relationships with running clubs, nonprofit organizations, sponsors, and community partners to enhance participation and public engagement.
At the discretion of the MCMO Director, exercises financial and contractual oversight in conjunction with the MCMO Business Manager, which may include approval and signature authority for sponsorship agreements, purchase orders, and related financial documents.
Serves as liaison between contractors and the Contracting Officer to facilitate contract administration.
In coordination with the MCMO Director and assigned Contracting Officer Representatives, monitors contractor performance and compliance with contract requirements and identifies and reports performance issues.
Reviews and approves invoices, inspects and accepts products and services, maintains contract documentation, and completes required ethics and standards-of-conduct training.
Serves as a subject matter expert and senior advisor to the MCMO Director.
Plans, organizes, and manages internal procedures and resources to maximize productivity, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility.
Assists in long-range planning, property resource management, and implementation of internal operating directives. Exercises delegated personnel management authority.
Represents MCMO at meetings, conferences, briefings, speeches, and hearings.
Assists in budget oversight, resource allocation, and monitoring of program execution based on validated and prioritized requirements.
Analyzes operational data to identify trends, conduct needs assessments, and develop position papers and recommendations supporting organizational goals and objectives.
Advises senior leaders on protocol, formalities, and professional courtesies when hosting distinguished guests. Provides guidance on business etiquette, including receptions and award ceremonies.
Assists in preparing financial plans, reports, and related documentation, and may exercise authority over approved budgets at the discretion of the MCMO Director.
Conducts regular program reviews and initiates corrective actions to ensure alignment with MCMO operational objectives.
Supervises personnel by counseling and training employees; assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; and approving leave and personnel actions.
Ensures compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Sexual Harassment Prevention, safety, environmental, and security programs.
Develops and enforces internal controls to safeguard resources and minimize fraud, waste, and abuse. Must travel in support of MCMO races, expos, and promotional events.
Responsibilities may include representing MCMO at external expos; marketing race events; engaging runners, sponsors, and vendors; assisting with race-day setup and execution; and attending external race events to observe industry best practices and implement operational improvements within MCMO.
