Summary

This job involves reviewing and processing applications for professional licenses, registrations, and permits in Michigan's skilled trades and regulatory programs, while also handling public inquiries about application status, renewals, and requirements.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • One year of administrative support experience equivalent to Departmental Technician 7 level in state service
  • For level 8: One year as a technician or paraprofessional at entry level, or equivalent administrative experience
  • For level E9: One year as a supervisor at 9-level, or two years as technician/paraprofessional with one year at intermediate level
  • Ability to review applications for eligibility under statutes like Skilled Trades Regulation Act and Occupational Code
  • Skills in answering public calls, updating online databases, and processing renewals
  • Experience preparing and updating training materials, tip sheets, and guides

Full Job Description


This position functions as a departmental technician for statewide licensing programs administered under the authority of the Skilled Trades Regulation Act, Occupational Code, Elevator Safety Board Act, Elevator Licensing Act, and the associated administrative rules.

This position reviews and processes applications for licenses, registrations and/or permits in order to determine eligibility in accordance with statutory and rule provisions.

This position will also answer calls from the public regarding license/examination application requirements, status of applications, updating information within the online database, and renewals.

This individual assists in preparing and keeping training materials, tip sheets and guides current using administrative rules.

Education

Education typically acquired through completion of high school

Experience

Departmental Technician 7

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service. 

Departmental Technician 8

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service. 

OR 

One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service. 

Departmental Technician E9

One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service. 

OR 

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service. 

OR 

Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.

Qualifications

Departmental Technician 7 

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement. 

Departmental Technician 8 

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement. 

Departmental Technician E9 

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
