Job Description

Summary

This entry-level government job involves checking and fixing data in a state environmental database to ensure it's accurate for air quality programs, permits, and federal reporting.

You'll review records for mistakes, make corrections, track issues, and help improve processes while working with a team in Michigan's environmental department.

Full Job Description


This position provides quality assurance/quality control support for the Air Quality Division's (AQD) MiEnviro Portal database. The position analyses required data elements within MiEnviro to meet state and federal program needs including permitting, compliance/enforcement and emissions program areas. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of database records. Tasks include reviewing data for errors and inconsistencies, making corrections where appropriate and escalating issues to the system vendor or other parties within AQD for resolution. Position also maintains documentation of corrections, tracks issue resolution and contributes to process improvements. The position also reviews, analyzes, and verifies the accuracy of required data elements reported to U.S.EPA’s compliance and enforcement data system.

Position Description

The selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person).

Employees approved for schedules that include remote work must complete that work within Michigan. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

When working remote, employees must use a designated workspace that is safe and professionally appropriate, allows for privacy, minimizes distractions, and includes secure internet access.

Requirements

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Experience

Departmental Analyst 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Departmental Analyst 10
One year of professional experience.

Departmental Analyst P11
Two years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service.

Qualifications

Departmental Analyst (Departmental Trainee) 9 (FOR CLASSIFIED STATE EMPLOYEES ONLY)

Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
Four years of experience as an advanced 9-level worker in an ECP Group One classification.

OR

Three years of experience as an E9, E10, or E11-level worker in an ECP Group One classification.

OR

Two years of experience as an experienced level worker in an ECP Group One technician or paraprofessional classification.

OR

Two years of experience as a first-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.

OR

One year of experience as a second-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.

*Paraprofessional classifications are those requiring an associate’s degree or two years of college.

Educational Substitution
College credits may be substituted on a proportional basis (one year of college education may substitute for one quarter of the required experience) for up to one half of the required experience.

Departmental Analyst 9 - 12
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.
