Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a dentist in a minimum-security prison in Iowa, where you'll screen, diagnose, and treat dental issues for about 1,150 male inmates, including procedures like cleanings, fillings, extractions, and creating dental appliances.

You'll also supervise dental staff, ensure compliance with health policies, document treatments, and attend meetings to support inmate rehabilitation through healthcare.

A good fit would be a licensed dentist who is comfortable in a correctional setting, enjoys clinical work, and has strong organizational skills for record-keeping and team leadership.

Key Requirements

  • Active licensure as a dentist issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners
  • Ability to diagnose and treat dental diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums, and oral structures
  • Skills in performing dental procedures including cleaning, filling, extracting teeth, and designing crowns, bridges, and appliances
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to dental hygienists and support staff
  • Knowledge of correctional health policies, such as DOC HSP 1001 Dental Services and HSP 1003 Infection Control
  • Proficiency in documenting services in electronic medical records (ICON system)
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, and attend statewide and facility meetings

Full Job Description

The Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility is a minimum custody, male facility that houses approximately 1150 incarcerated individuals.
Our goal is to offer treatment, work, education and apprenticeship opportunities in order to prepare them for their entry back into the neighborhoods of Iowa.

This position will provide incarcerated individuals with dental screening/treatment in accordance with DOC dental services, policy and procedures; diagnoses and treat diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures; perform examinations of incarcerated individuals, utilized diagnostic procedures and instruments.

Cleans, fills, extracts and replaces teeth, designs and build crowns, bridges and dental appliances.
Provides clinical supervision of dental hygienist and other staff assigned to clinic; endure the dental services provided are in accordance with DOC HSP 1001 Dental Services and HSP 1003 Infection recommendations on the DOC Dental Program to the DOC Health Care Director based on Professional research of recent studies and practices.

Document services provided in incarcerated individual's ICON Medical Records.
Attend and participate in Statewide health care meetings and any meetings at the facility.

The hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Qualifications
