Dementia Support Specialist for Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A) based in Aberdeen, Raymond, or Long Beach, WA.

Requirements

The Dementia Support Specialist provides individualized dementia-related counseling, support, and training to unpaid caregivers and people living with dementia. Provides information and referral services; conducts needs assessments; authorizes appropriate services and facilitates access with application or enrollment support. Assists in the planning, outreach, and organization of early-stage support groups, memory café’s, adult day centers, caregiver support groups, and other dementia related community events. Acts as lead facilitator for local caregiver support groups, early memory loss support and empowerment groups, and memory cafés. Serves as a Dementia Friends Champion and a STAR-C Coach delivering community informational sessions and behavior management training to in-home family caregivers. Is expected to become a certified SHARE for dementia counselor to provide in-person support newly diagnosed individuals and their care partners. Assists the Dementia Program Manager with the operation of the Dementia Outreach Program.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral, human services, or social services or related field and two years of paid social service experience, or BA and four years paid social service experience.

Interviewing and counseling skills with an ability to work in a team-based environment.

Knowledge of social services, human services issues, dementia support desired especially experience dealing with older adults and family caregivers.

Ability to conduct needs assessments and referral to community resources. Requires strong communication skills to conduct community outreach and facilitate support groups.


Requires current WDL & insured vehicle.


Additional Information

$67,098 to $88,039 annually.


40 hrs./wk. Non-Exempt.
