This vacancy is for a Decennial Specialist position in the U.S. Census Bureau, Field Division, Atlanta Regional Office, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Decennial Specialist, 0301-13 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Specialized experience: For the GS-13 you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service.

Experience for this position includes supervising, training and delegating work to subordinates; overseeing and providing guidance directly to staff; communicating with diverse populations; setting priorities, developing, monitoring, and analyzing detailed program/data collection activities/project and system requirements and implementation schedules; and reviewing cost, quality, and progress reports; monitoring and managing overlapping projects.

Education: Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert regarding data collection operations in meetings related to decennial census operations and related activities.
  • Collaborate and communicate with multiple stakeholders to develop and optimize a shared decennial census design.
  • Prepare materials required for workflow and operations analysis, organization and distribution of work, cost studies, and equipment utilization.
  • Lead regional staff in the design, development, implementation, and monitoring of the various systems and subsystems which support the planning, collection, processing, and/or publication of a decennial census.
