Job Description

Summary

This job involves using data science to help the U.S. Secret Service make better decisions by analyzing information, creating tools to organize data, and sharing insights with leaders.

You'll work on improving how the agency handles its programs through smart data techniques.

Joining the Secret Service, Office of Strategy, Planning, and Innovation will allow you to apply data science and related information management principles to promote effective data use for informed decision-making, and to drive positive transformation in programs and organizational units with advanced analytic, modeling, and evaluation support.

To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements AND Minimum Qualification requirements as listed below: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: A.

Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.

The degree must be in major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR B.

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $121,785.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as: Creating processes to identify different types of business content and automatically assign appropriate metadata tags; Serving as a subject matter expert on analytical teams, providing guidance and expertise in the design, execution, and interpretation of advanced data analysis (including platforms such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and OneDrive); Developing tools and methods to extract, organize, integrate, interpret, tag, and visualize data stored in data systems; Independently leading advanced data studies using innovative tools to evaluate agency initiatives and ensure accurate data collection and analysis; Presenting complex information to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external partners through briefings and presentations.

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying).

Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current competitive service employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50, "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility.

The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). You may need to submit more than one SF-50 to comply.

The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Major Duties:

The selectee will serve as a Data Scientist in the Office of Strategy, Planning, and Innovation.

Typical work assignments include: Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of data science projects, models, and Operations; and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop data tags and electronic records metadata, products, and definitions.

Leads the creation and implementation of statistically valid data collection tools and systems and analyzes agency operations to define data and reporting requirements.

Collaborates with intra-agency partners to build and maintain data models, reporting systems, automation, and dashboards using multiple data sources, demonstrating expertise in at least two areas such as cloud platforms, generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), programming, Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), or relevant certifications.

Translates complex concepts, findings, and limitations into clear, audience-specific language, and develops presentations and interpretations of analytical results-utilizing interactivity and storytelling as needed-to make specialized data more understandable for senior agency officials.

Presents analytical findings to policymakers and non-technical audiences, responds to questions with precision and tact, and provides guidance and recommendations to senior officials on advanced projects while resolving critical issues efficiently.
