Job Description

Summary

This job involves reviewing and handling public requests for government data, ensuring compliance with state laws by checking information, redacting sensitive parts, and communicating with people who ask for the data.

Full Job Description

The Compliance department is looking for a Data Reviewer to join their team.

This position focuses on performing initial reviews on data potentially responsive to Minnesota Government Data Practices Act requests.

The review process can include communicating and collecting responsive data from departments across the county, reviewing data pulled in response to a request, and applying redaction to data in compliance with various state statues.

This position also communicates with requesters, tests and implements process changes based on customer interactions and feedback, and analyzes and interprets legal statutes.

Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the 625 Building located at 625 4th Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55415, and remote as job duties require.

Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:
  • Serve as the first point of contact for the public when they submit data practices requests through the phone, online request portal, or the shared inbox.
  • Compose communication with requesters to seek clarification, manage expectations, or outline redactions.
  • Conduct the initial review on data related to Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA) requests.
  • Identify system policies or countywide procedures that may need to be updated and suggest options for updates.
  • Update system FAQs to address changes and updates recently made.
  • Develop and implement additional training and programs to address customer feedback, changes in processes, or resolve identified inconsistencies.
  • Track, note, and maintain accurate records of processes, communication, and data collected/released in the internal GovQA system.
  • Attend and participate in the county-wide Compliance Champions group, review procedures and policies.
  • Provide suggested updates, assess the need for additional training or processes, and develop and implement strategic goals in alignment with division objectives.

Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Four years or more of experience in general administrative work related to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position.

Nice to have:

  • Experience:
    • Reviewing and redacting private or confidential data according to statute or legal citations.
    • Assessing processes or developing effective processes.
    • Working with redaction software or advanced technical programs to ensure confidentiality and protection of protected data.
    • With communication to the public on statute citations and legal requirements related to MGPDA.
  • Ability to:
    • Organize and delegate tasks to staff members.
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff members.
    • Understand, interpret, and apply policies and procedures.
    • Exercise good judgment with regards to accessing private or confidential data.
    • Professionally interact with both external and internal customers.
