Job Description

Summary

This job is for directing a school-age childcare center on a military base in Fort Drum, New York, where you'll oversee daily operations, manage staff, handle budgets, and ensure kids have fun and safe programs.

It's ideal for someone with a background in child or youth education who loves leading teams and creating engaging activities for children.

You'll work closely with parents and other managers to keep everything running smoothly and up to standards.

Key Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree with at least 24 semester hours in child development, early childhood education, youth development, or related fields like elementary education or behavioral science
  • Or, a combination of equivalent education (24 semester hours) and relevant experience providing comparable knowledge
  • At least 24 months of professional experience managing a child or youth facility, equivalent to the next lower level
  • Experience managing full operations including budgeting, facility and supply management, program development and implementation, personnel selection/training/supervision, and curriculum oversight
  • Strong skills in planning/organizing work, analyzing problems, gathering data, and identifying solutions
  • Excellent oral communication, analytical writing, and ability to present ideas to diverse audiences

This position is located at School-Age Care Center, Fort Drum, New York.

Morale Welfare Recreation (MWR) Child and Youth Services (CYS) Employee Childcare Fee: First Child: 100% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees) Second and Subsequent Child: 25% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees) Incentives and Bonuses Incentives and bonuses will not be paid.

A qualified candidate must possess the following: (Qual 1) Successful completion of an undergraduate Degree that included or was supplemented by major study (at least 24 semester hours) in the fields appropriate to the position consistent with: For positions in Child Development Facilities: The education must have been in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education or other fields appropriate to the position to be filled such as related behavioral science.

For positions in Youth Facilities: The education must have been in youth development, youth administration, education, home economics, physical education, elementary education, special education or other fields appropriate to the position to be filled such as related behavioral science.

For positions in School-Age facilities, the education must have been in any of the fields above.

OR (Qual 2) A combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in a subject matter field (24 semester hours) appropriate to the position (see above), plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described above.

In addition to the basic requirements stated above (Qual 1 OR Qual 2) candidate must possess the following: 1. 24 months of professional experience in managing a child or youth facility is required.

This experience must be equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower level to include the following: 2.

Demonstrated experience in managing an entire cycle of operation of a CYS facility to include budgeting, facility management, supply management, program development, implementation, selection, training and supervision of personnel and curriculum oversight.

3. The ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions. 4.

Comprehensive oral and communications skills and analytical writing skills. 5. Ability to present ideas and proposals to a variety of audiences. Major Duties:

  • Performs duties under the general direction of the CYS Coordinator, who outlines program objectives and is available for discussion of complicated and unprecedented matters.
  • Serves as a member of the Installation Child and Youth Evaluation Team to ensure compliance with health, fire, safety, facility and program regulatory requirements and CYS baseline standards.
  • Develops program budget and provides to CYS Coordinator for CYS budget. Manages program to budget. Conducts written analyses of budget variances.
  • Establishes and maintains an active program of parental involvement, providing parent education opportunities and encouraging parent observation and participation.
  • Works cooperatively with other CYS Managers to ensure seamless service and continuity of quality options for all children and youth. Serves as member of the CYS Program Plan Team to develop written strategies for program improvement.
