Job Description

Summary

This job is for retired Nevada police officers to serve as court marshals in the City of Las Vegas Municipal Court, handling tasks like serving warrants, making arrests, keeping order in the courtroom, and transporting prisoners.

It's a temporary role until 2027, aimed at rehiring experienced retirees to fill critical needs.

A good fit would be a recently retired sworn officer with strong law enforcement background who wants to return to duty in a court setting.

Key Requirements

  • Must be a Nevada PERS retiree who has received at least one retirement benefit payment
  • Must hold a current and active Nevada POST Category I certification
  • No more than 60 months (5 years) since last employment with a police department
  • Must successfully complete required re-hire training
  • Must pass a comprehensive assessment process including background check, polygraph, psychological evaluation, interview, medical exam, drug testing, and fingerprinting
  • Prior experience as a sworn police officer performing law enforcement duties

Rehiring Nevada's Law Enforcement Retirees

The City of Las Vegas is pleased to announce a recruitment for the position of Municipal Court Marshal - Critical Labor Hire

Performs a variety of sworn law enforcement related duties including serving arrest warrants, subpoenas, and other court orders; to make arrests; and to maintain order in the court and transport prisoners to court and jail.

Position Information:

  • Retirees will be hired in the Municipal Court Marshal classification. Please click here to review the full job description.
  • The designation (CLS) will expire September 17, 2027.
  • Assignments will be determined at the sole discretion of the Court Administrator.
  • Officers will be placed at Step 7 ($74,542) of the wage schedule and are eligible for union pay adjustments that are outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Must successfully complete any required re-hire training within the timeframe as determined by the department.

Civil Service Testing Process:

The test for placing candidates on the eligible list will consist of an application evaluation and scoring. It is essential that applications include detailed information regarding education, certifications, and experience. Applicants who pass this test will move forward to the department assessment process.
