Full Job Description

The Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for a Crew Leader I with our Water Distribution Division. This person will perform as a lead in repairing, maintaining and installing water services for City of Norfolk. They will also schedule and oversee safety of employees.

Requirements

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

Supervises employees in construction, maintenance, repair or upkeep of facilities by ensuring quality of work, ensuring safety precautions are followed, assigning tasks, and training employees.

Installs fire hydrants, water lines and valves, water mains and force valves by removing and installing new equipment, ensuring equipment is securely assembled and fastened, cleaning new equipment, flushing and backfilling if necessary, writing work orders.

Repairs water mains and taps by excavating to leak location, installing clamps, force lines, fixings, water meters, washers, services straps, corp.

stops, copper tubing, etc., backfilling and removing excess.

Performs supervisory duties by assigning duties, allocating equipment, delivering equipment, maintaining yard, checking equipment and public safety notices such as signs to ensure proper functioning, checking and maintaining vehicles and materials, prepare reports, timesheets, materials and equipment sheets, job status reports, and evaluating employees performance.

Climbs ladders and stairs, bends, pushes, pulls, stoops, and lifts up to 75 lbs.; stands for extended periods of time; confined space entry also required Qualifications Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, or technical processes.

Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.Two years experience.Two years experience supervising a maintenance crew preferred.
