Summary

This job involves working as a caseworker for Westmoreland County's child welfare services, helping children, youth, and families with social, emotional, and economic challenges through supportive services and case management.

Do you have a background working with children and families? Do you have a passion for working in an environment that serves to help others? The Westmoreland County Children's Bureau is seeking a professional individual(s) to join our casework team.

Requirements

Employees in this class will participate in formal and informal county agency training programs which provide knowledge of the methods, procedures, rules and regulations necessary to perform social service and case management supportive services. These services will be provided to children, youth, and families, people who are mentally disabled, people who are physically challenged, and others to assist them in attaining a more satisfactory social, economic, emotional, or physical adjustment. The work assigned is limited in scope and difficulty, and is performed under close supervision, but as knowledges and skills are acquired, more latitude in judgment and decision making is permitted. Work is performed under the close supervision of a professional social service or administrative supervisor and is reviewed through individual and group conferences, assignment of professional reading, attendance at training programs, and the reading of records and reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time after 6 months of employment, up to 1 day per week.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Greensburg, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
